Microsoft, pictured at Apple, says store charges lower fees and enables payment processing
Microsoft executive Panos Panay contrasted with other app stores on Thursday when Windows 11 launched. On the Windows Store, he said, developers can use Microsoft’s payment processor (“trade engine”), which charges a 12% fee on purchases. Or, he said, developers can use their own payment processor and keep 100% of purchases.
This is clearly a blow to Apple and, to a lesser extent, to Google, which operates the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for mobile software, which charges 15-30%. on the purchase. Windows-based game stores, like Steam, also take a similar fee.
Microsoft’s rival, Apple, in particular, faces a lot of developer and regulatory checks on its fees. Microsoft has also announced a way to install Android apps on Windows PCs through Amazon’s Appstore platform.
“Today this world needs a more open platform,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, suggesting that big Windows apps can become their own platforms, another blow to Apple. – Kif Leswing
Windows 11 will support Android apps from the Amazon App Store
Microsoft has said Windows 11 will support Android apps through Amazon’s App Store. This means that popular apps that people are already using on phones will be available right on the desktop, the Start menu, and more.
But, in particular, the Amazon App Store does not offer Google’s popular Android apps such as Gmail, Maps, and other Google services. And according to the Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern, you’ll need to log into your Amazon account first to download these apps.
Still, that could be huge for Microsoft’s ARM-based Windows efforts, as these apps are already designed to run on mobile processors.
Notably, this is similar to how Apple’s Macs that run on its new M1 chip support iPhone and iPad apps. It shows how mobile apps, which people use all day on their phones, access our desktops on the two major platforms, Windows 11 and macOS.

Microsoft brings Xbox features to Windows
Xbox Game Pass
Microsoft is bringing some functionality from its Xbox consoles to Windows 11.
Windows 11 will include Auto HDR, which adjusts lighting and color in a game to make images more vivid. It needs supported games and the right equipment.
Microsoft also announced Direct Storage, which allows large game worlds to be loaded quickly using fast hard drives.
Xbox Game Pass
The company also promotes Xbox Game Pass, the company’s gaming subscription that gives access to many different titles for a monthly subscription, especially Microsoft-owned titles like those from Bethesda.
These features were previously available for the latest version of Xbox consoles.
“If you are a gamer, Windows 11 is for you,” said Panay. – Kif Leswing
Microsoft is making Teams more social media-like in Windows 11
Microsoft Teams, the company’s video conferencing and chat software, is receiving a major update to make it a system-wide messaging app.
During the presentation, Microsoft unveiled an interface that places chats in stand-alone windows. Frequent contacts appear as a pop-up in the start bar. It also benefits from more video conferencing features and seems easier to jump straight to a video call like you would with FaceTime or Messages on a Mac.
Teams has 145 million daily active users, Microsoft said in April. – Kif Leswing

Microsoft announces Windows 11
Microsoft has just announced Windows 11.
Panos Panay, Microsoft’s chief product officer, described the new operating system as “the Windows that brings you closer to what you love.”
There are rounded corners, a new wallpaper, and a centered Start menu with recently used apps and files on a variety of devices, as well as a search box. The Windows icon has also been given a makeover to be a simple square with four panes of equal size.
“Today marks a major milestone in the history of Windows,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. “It’s the start of a new generation.”

There are also Windows widgets, a repackage of a feature containing news, weather, and other information that has been presented to people testing Windows 10 versions over the past few months. The Widgets feature uses artificial intelligence to deliver personalized content, and it can be displayed on the entire screen with a left-to-right swipe.
Windows 11 will include “pop-up layouts” that make it easy to move application windows into predefined configurations. A new feature of “Instant Groups” on the taskbar is a group of apps that people used to use. And when Windows 11 users reconnect additional monitors to their PCs, the operating system will remember which apps were used before.
Microsoft is integrating its Teams productivity app directly into Windows, Panay said. The addition comes months after Microsoft added a way for people to quickly start video calls in Windows through its Skype app.
For people who use the operating system without a keyboard, like on a Surface touchscreen PC, the company makes it easy to adjust the size of application windows. For those who use a stylus, the company incorporates haptic feedback. The virtual keyboard that appears on the screen has also been redesigned.
Microsoft also unveiled a revamped app store, which Panay described as “the safest and most secure way for you to get your apps on Windows.” The app will make room for more traditional Win32 apps, as well as progressive web apps and Universal Windows Platform apps, and developers can use their own commerce systems. Apps can be in the store without Microsoft taking a share of app sales revenue.
Additionally, Android apps are coming to Windows, through the Amazon Appstore, and can be accessed from the taskbar, Panay said. This builds on efforts through the Your Phone app to allow owners of certain Samsung Android devices to run their Android apps on Windows.
The operating system will provide more performance for browsing the internet in Microsoft’s Edge browser, which will extend the battery life. The updates will be 40% smaller, Panay said.
And there will be fewer updates: one per year, instead of two per year with Windows 10.
Panay has asked livestream viewers to purchase “Windows 11 compatible” PCs, which will be available later this year. Computers must respond to new Hardware requirements in order to run the new operating system. On the one hand, Microsoft said, “Windows 11 Home Edition requires an internet connection and a Microsoft account to complete device setup on first use.”
the Checking PC Status Microsoft’s app can show Windows 10 users if their PCs are eligible for an upgrade to Windows 11, for free. The upgrade will begin to be available through the Windows Update section of the Settings app this holiday season and will continue until 2022. People who want to try an older version of Windows 11 can access it starting next week. through the Windows Insider program.

Windows 11 should introduce a new design
Windows 11 event
We’re about to get a sneak peek at what’s next for Windows. There may not be many surprises, thanks to a leak last week of what appeared to be an early version of an operating system called Windows 11.
Last week some media reported a version leak of an operating system called Windows 11. The version showed rounded corners for application windows, refreshed animations, and a Start menu located centrally at the bottom of the screen. ‘screen, among other changes.
The leaked version did not include an updated version of Microsoft’s built-in Windows app store. The redesign of the Store app will likely come with the Windows refresh, Windows Central said in April. Thursday’s event is a logical time for Microsoft to consider this.
Microsoft declined to comment on the authenticity of the version. But we’ll know more about what the software looks like after the event begins at 11 a.m. ET.
